Postprocessing photos spell a whole lot of difference in terms of clarity, quality, contrast and effect, etc... I must admit that post processed photos almost always come out more appealing.
There are lots of software to tune and refine photos. The most popular, I should say, must be Photoshop. There are also softwares such as Digital Photo Pro (Canon) that comes with the camera package.
But in case, you don't have any of these post processsing softwares yet, you might want to try Picasa. It's a lightweight, easy-to-use application from Google. And more importantly, it's free.
