Random Bits

This is just a random post of bits and pieces in my life- offline and online.

Offline first, as this will be a sad news. A friend, one of my closest, passed away (I did mention that in this post). I’ll miss her – all of her friends and family surely will.

At the moment, I’m still trying to get in terms with the loss. And even more so with the could-have-beens and should-have-beens. *sigh* But I know she’s happy now. And the thought that she’s now free from the pain and hurt of this world helps me accept reality.

So in behalf of my family, we’d like to extend our condolences to the Galeon Family. May God’s strength carry you through in this time of grief and loss.

Okay off to the next update. I noticed today that the PR of tipsandtrick4me is one notch higher than what it was in my last check. Wooot! * I couldn’t have been more happier with my online life. *doing the happy dance* I hope this means that my North Face wishlist is about to come true in few days time *crossing my fingers* Honestly, I didn’t expect to have this site’s PR raised especially that I’ve continued with my non-PR friendly activities here. *impish grin* So you can just imagine what a surprise it is for me. The angels must have known I needed some lifting in the spirits, ey?

So to all who swings by here, intentionally and otherwise, and even for just a second or two, thank you.

A Tip And A Couple of Boo-boos

Tip for the day:

Never ever wear mascara when paying your last respect. And never ever go without a tissue, too.

The reason is pretty obvious. Need I say more? But I will- just for posterity sake. *smile*

Last night, we went to pay our last respect to a dear friend. I had intentionally put make-up on but made sure to steer clear from finishing up with mascara. Just in case.

But this girl scout girl, however, terribly, terribly forgot to bring a tissue. Long story short, and no matter how strong I fancied myself to be, I ended up shedding shameless tears and drenching the hood of my sweater not only with tears but nasal drip!

But a dear friend unwittingly provided much needed comic relief. She, who shed copious tears, had full make up on (yeah mascara and all!)

How to Manage Varicose Veins By Improving Blood Circulation

Oh varicose veins. I have few of them.

They are already there as far back as in my high school years. Not the spider veins and nor the bulging kind (or painful), though faintly visible, mine are unsightly all the same.

So what to do?

Modern technology has answers to this. There are procedures that may help in eliminating it or managing it. These include: surgery (i.e. ambulatory phlebectomy) and injection therapy.

There are also self-help techniques that could help manage with its symptoms. These techniques that promote better blood circulation may also prevent varicose veins, though not really guarantee a 100% prevention. But studies have shown that promoting blood circulation yields favorable result.

So here are few things that will help blood circulation, manage varicose veins:

-Exercise. Walking, running, cycling, swimming etc…keep the blood vessels healthy.

-Eat high-fiber diet. Soluble fiber is said to lower down blood cholesterol and decrease the risk of cardiovascular diseases.

-Take Vitamin C. Vit C is said to improve elasticity of the veins.

-Loosen up! Do so with your tie or belt for a minute or two. Unbutton your tuxedo shirt during break time - not all the way though *smile*, just the topmost button would be good enough.

-De-stress legs:

-Go for flats! De-stress your feet and legs by kicking off your favorite high heels and wearing flat-heeled shoes instead.

-Use support stockings.

-Lie down on your back with your legs comfortably raised.

Tip of the Day: Skip Dandruff Shampoos

If you've been into dandruff shampoos for a while (in the hope of controlling those flakes), here's a but for you.

S-K-I-P today. *smiles*

Alternate dandruff shampoos with regular ones, or better yet with a mild and moisturizing shampoo. This will help protect the scalp from the harsh and drying chemicals which are found in most dandruff. When scalp is too dry, it get itchy and easily irritated.

In the Shopping Bag

Remember my post about some wardrobe loots that I wanna buy (but didn't get to)?

Okay I was in my country's capital a week or so ago for a very short business trip... and I got tempted. No, actually I didn't intend to shop but (to my heart's glee) my husband asked me if I wanted to check something out and so my ready reply "No" surprisingly came out as "Okay, let's go."

*silly grin*

And the rest is history. I was just helpless among the heaps of colorful and comfortable goods of a brand that I totally adore. And I came home with a version of what I wanted here. And here they are, presenting few of my loots.... tadaa...

This orange Agata Cardigan is absolutely adorable - actually I bought two! (The other one is color black)

And this sweater is just me. Mine was in Royal Blue.

Uses of White Eyeshadow

The most under-rated eyeshadow must be the white eyeshadow. But do you know that one can do lots with it?

To enhance you nose:

To make your nose look thinner, use a bronzing powder on the sides. Run a bit of white eye shadow down at the center will help bring it out further. To widen the nose, do the opposite. That is, apply white eye shadow at the sides and bronzing powder at the center.

For a shimmering face base:

Mix white eyeshadow with your foundation. You may use the foundation first and enhance the contours of your face with the eyeshadow. Make sure to blend it well with the foundation. Or you could opt to apply a thin film of white eyeshadow as a finish to your foundation.

For an instant peep perk:

Gently stroke some white eyeshadow under your brows to give your eyes an instant lift and a fresh look.

The Best Time to Apply Perfume

Do you know when the best time to apply your favorite perfume or cologne is?

Answer: Right after showering or bathing.

It is said that at this time your pores are still open so that your skin will soak up or absorb the scent, giving it a more long-lasting effect.

Of Eyebrows

Here's one tip about eyebrows that was sent to me.

"Tidy the brows regularly by brushing them to shape. Make sure to pluck out the stray hairs between the brows and along the bottom of the brows. Never pluck the hair from above them (brows)."

And because I saw someone sporting the infamous "surprised look" yesterday, it reminds me to include this bit:

"Try and maintain a natural curve as far as possible. Thin, arched types are out (and definitely unbecoming, I might add). They only give you that perpetually surprised look." Lol.

All About Swine Flu

With the recent flu scare due to the recent Swine Flu outbreak in Mexico (and maybe other countries), I've been searching and reading online resources to orient myself about the said subject.

And here are some good reads about the topic:

How Swine Flu Spreads In Humans
"People cannot catch swine flu from eating pork or pork products. Cooking pork to an internal temperature of 160 degrees Fahrenheit (71 degrees Celsius) kills the swine flu virus along with other bacteria and viruses."

Prevention Tips and Measures done By Some Countries

WHO Guidance to Countries on Flu Pandemics

Some Facts about Pandemic Flu from the WHO or this link

Economic Impact of Flu Outbreak

"Some drug makers may benefit. Oil prices, already depressed by the global recession, could fall further if the outbreak hurts travel and economic activity."

And the latest update from WHO website
"WHO advises no restriction of regular travel or closure of borders."

P.S. As always strengthening our immune system is essential in preventing illness. Go for Vitamin C -there are a lot of affordable brands available in the market nowadays.

On another subject, do you know that there also a lot of affordable and effective weight loss pills available in the market these days? To find out more, just click the preceding link.
